The subject of this thesis is the GIS approach to sustainable management of the tourism infrastructure of the city of Zadar, with the aim of presenting a more contemporary way of managing the tourism infrastructure, defining the main accomodation capacity and restaurant zones, determining the capacity of receiving tourists according to the coefficient of tourist functionality, analyzing the vicinity of accommodation units to the center of tourism activity, singling out the density of restaurants and criteria according to which the development trends of tourism activities will be monitored, and pointing out the importance of future management throughout the entire paper. In addition to the theoretical framework of sustainable development and management of tourism infrastructure, the research methodology has been elaborated in detail and research results show the overload of coastal areas, especially the Peninsula, while the areas farther from the sea are not being valorized sufficiently. The development of tourism in Croatia and Zadar has been explained and tourism resources of the city of Zadar are mentioned in terms of natural-geographical and culturalhistorical heritage. Furthermore, the features of space management in tourism and protection measures are listed as important aspects of sustainable management. The concept and main characteristics of sustainable development are defined, as well as tourism carrying capacity and its subtypes as the most frequently quoted quantitative indicators of tourism activity. The reasons for the complexity of the process of calculating this indicator are stated as well. The backbone of the paper is the GIS approach to managing the tourism infrastructure of the city of Zadar throughout different activities limited to private accomodation, hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions. A purposeful database was created and locations of all reported accommodation units in 2016, as well as hotel accommodation, restaurants and tourist attractions, were geocoded. With the use of ArcGIS software, analyzes related to tourism infrastructure were carried out and results were obtained in accordance with predefined criteria. Locations of accommodation units and restaurants are presented in more detail only for the Zadar Peninsula area - the narrow center of the city and the frame of tourism activities, due to the greatest load during the tourist season, as proven by the analyzes. The possibilities of using GIS software in tourism and infrastructure management due its analytical capabilities and the possibility of rapid manipulation of spatial data have been stated, as well as the necessity for integrated management and co-operation between different teams of experts in managing the area of the sensitive coastal area, all for the purpose of sustainable development.
