Leisure is a time in which a person is free of all obligations and can use it for his pastime. It is loosely connected with work, which does not only contrast it, but they mutually permeate. It is individual for everyone, yet there are certain aspects of leisure behaviour which are equal for everyone. Throughout history, the awareness of the need for leisure grew, and so did the opinion on it. Leisure can be studied through different approaches and perspectives, which is desirable, because it is omnipresent and permeated with different socio-cultural characteristics. Considering the different stages in the life cycle, the behaviour of the individual and his participation in all sorts of activities also differs. As one gets older, so does his priorities and needs, and he does the same with his leisure. Observing leisure, it is important to bear in mind the time perspective in which it is observed. Considering that we are currently in the postmodern era, leisure has been looked upon from this perspective, which created its new forms, which have been perceived from the perspective of serious leisure.
