Ce mémoire de master étudie les adjectifs liés aux phénomènes karstiques en trois langues : anglais, français et croate. Cette recherche souligne l’importance d’une terminologie précise et claire dans la communication scientifique, en particulier dans le domaine de la géomorphologie, sachant que l’échange de terminologie géologique et géographique entre langues implique la prise en compte de différentes configurations de terrain et de processus cognitifs qui ont un impact sur la perception et compréhension de l’espace et de l’environnement. Dans ce mémoire nous explorons les variations sémantiques, collocationnelles et morphologiques des adjectifs au sein du domaine du karst et nous identifions les défis associés à leur traduction et à leur conceptualisation. L’approche méthodologique est basée sur l’analyse de corpus spécialisés et sur l’application de l’approche théorique Terminologique des Cadres (Frame-based Terminology), qui permet une analyse systématique de la terminologie karstique. Les corpus croate et anglais font partie du projet TermFrame, tandis que le corpus français est issu de recherches antérieures sur l’analyse comparative trilingue de termes multi-mots du domaine du karst. Les résultats obtenus ont été visualisés à l’aide de l’outil de visualisation en ligne NetViz. Cette analyse terminologique contribue à une meilleure compréhension des structures conceptuelles de la terminologie du karst et, en général, de la terminologie géomorphologique. Les résultats intéressent les traducteurs, les scientifiques et les chercheurs en géologie et en géographie, dans le but ultime de normaliser la terminologie dans toutes les langues afin de garantir la clarté dans le domaine du karst.

This master’s thesis investigates adjectives related to karstic phenomena in three languages: English, French and Croatian. This study emphasizes the importance of precise and accurate terminology in scientific communication, particularly in the field of geomorphology, bearing in mind the exchange of geological and geographical terminology between languages involves taking into account different terrain configurations and cognitive processes which have an impact on the perception and understanding of space and the environment. This thesis explores the semantic, collocational and morphological variations of adjectives within the karst domain and identifies challenges associated with their translation and conceptualization. The methodological approach is based on specialized corpora analysis and on the application of the approach of Frame-based Terminology, which allows a systematic analysis of karst terminology. The Croatian and English corpora are part of the TermFrame project, while the French corpus comes from previous research on the trilingual comparative analysis of multi-word terms from the karst domain. The obtained results were visualized using the online visualization tool NetViz. This terminological analysis contributes to a better understanding of the conceptual structures of karst terminology and, in general, of geomorphological terminology. The results are of interest for translators, scientists, and researchers in geology and geography, with the ultimate goal of standardizing terminology across languages to ensure clarity in the field of karstology.
