The term visual impairment, also known as vision impairment or vision loss encompasses a number of sensory impairments that are classified into two categories: blindness and low vision. Children with visual impairment need to go through all developmental stages as well as other children, but in their development there are some peculiarities. In order to provide equal opportunities for visually impaired children, full early intervention is required. Students with visual impairments need certain regulations governing the conditions of their schooling, in the first place adapting the environment to their needs. Students with visual impairments can be educated in special institutions or regular schools through inclusion and integration programs. Very important role in the education of the visually impaired has educational rehabilitator. A large number of visually impaired people use Braille for reading and writing. The university education of people with visual impairments has some peculiarities. Any activity of a person with visual impairment is inconceivable without typhlo technical aids. How do they work and what problems a blind professors of the Croatian language have in handling their teaching/service responsibilities we find out from the conducted survey.
