Even though epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders in the world, it is still necessary to examine how to properly diagnose and treat it. Diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy is extremely time-consuming and complicated process which is never the same; the whole process should be approached individually, and with attention to the patient’s general health condition and other possible comorbidities. As human life expectancy increases and the world's population ages, so does the number of older people who suffer from certain diseases, including epilepsy. Therefore, it is especially necessary to investigate the incidence of epilepsy in persons older than 65, as well as the specificity of the disease that occurs at that age. The first part of this paper deals with general epilepsy information that has been researched and known so far; definition and epidemiology of epilepsy, epileptic seizures, causes and classification of epilepsy, diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy. The second and central part of the paper is dedicated to the specifics of epilepsy with people over 65 and the challenges that arise in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy. Since these processes are not the same with young and old, there are certain obstacles and problems that need to be further investigated.
