Throughout its history, language evolves, changes and is shaped under various influences. As a result of different economic, political and cultural touchpoints and influences in the middle and the southeastern Europe, one great influence on Slavic languages speaking territories has been the German language and German culture. In this paper, it will be established to what extent there is a representation of Germanisms or words borrowed from the German language, in use in both Slovak and Croatian languages. Using literature in Croatian, Slovak and German, as well as a questionnaire, the frequency of Germanism use in the languages already mentioned will be investigated, which will lead to results showing whether there are certain similarities and differences in their use, given the geographical distance between the countries. The aim of this research is to establish the quantitative representation of the use of loanwords from the German language and to determine those loanwords with respect to their associated semantic fields.
