Melanoma is maligant skin tumor and one of the most maligant tumor in general. Its genesis comes from melanocytes. Melanocytes are colored cells which are present in the eyes, meninx, lymph nodes and in the mucose of respiratory and digestive system. Melanoma usually occurs on the skin of upper body and lower extremities. The incidence of melanoma is increasing over time. The rate of illness in Croatia has increased from 2,1 on 100 000 habitants in 1968. to 12,3 on 100 000 habitants in 2010. Melanoma is tumor of high maligancy, therefore early detection and appropriate treatment represents a prerequisite for successful treatment and survival growth. Goal of this paper is to present etiology, diagnosis and treatment of maligant melanoma and to analyze and process data from General Hospital Zadar in patients with maligant melanoma.
