In dieser Arbeit wird der Tanz als Medium im Heilungsprozess Harry Hallers, der Hauptfigur im Roman Der Steppenwolf von Hermann Hesse. Der Protagonist steht vor einem Übergang in neue Lebensphase und muss einen Weg zu sich selbst finden. Innerlich zerissener Harry, einsam und enfremdet, nennt er sich Steppenwolf und löste fast alle seine konventionellen Bindungen. Die Begegnung mit Hermine im Wirtshaus zum „Schwarzen Adler“ bedeutet den Umschwung im Hallers Leben. Sie wird siene Tanz- und Lebenslehrerin, seine Beatrice durch Höhle seines Selbst. Vielmehr als ein Bildungsprozess geht es um einen S eelenprozess, das mittels Tanz verknüp ft Hallers äußere Welt mit der inneren. Durch Tanz werden ihm neue Erfahrungen ermöglicht; es geht um einen Schritt in der Freiheit. Haller erkennt, dass sein Dasein gescheitert isst. Er will sich mit anderen Worten ändern, und beginnt seine Metamorphose mit der Verwerfung seiner bisherigen Existenz schlechthin. Dieser Wille zur Wandlung von einer seelischen Größe und Offenheit, die eine optimistische Prognose für seinen Prozess zur Genesung ermöglicht. Er beginnt mit Tanzlektionen, Tanzcafes besuchen und Jazz Musik hören. Haller bereitet sich darauf vor, das Magische Theater zu besuchen. Es ist ein Maskenbal, in der er die ganze Nacht tanzt und eine metaphysische Erfahrung erlebt. Dies ist eigentlich eine innere Bühne, das heißt, eine mentale Projektion von Hallers Unterbewusstsein, wo die "Unsterblichen" Haller zum ewigen Lachen verurteilen, und er erkennt, dass eine solche Metamorphose in seinem Leben noch viele Male vor sich gehen muss.

In this thesis, I explore how dance is used as a medium in the healing process of Harry Haller, the protagonist in Hermann Hesse's novel Steppenwolf. The main character is facing a transition to a new life stage and has to find a way to find himself. Harry is torn between citizen and artist aspects of his personality and, lonely and estranged, calls himself the Steppenwolf because he has broken most of his conventional ties to society. Meeting Hermina at the tavern "At the Black Eagle" marks a turning point in Haller's life. Hermina becomes a Haller teacher of dance and life, his Beatrice through his own inner hell. Instead of an educational process, it is a process of the soul that, through dance, connects Haller's outer world with the inner one. Dance gives him new experiences; it’s about stepping into freedom. Haller understands the chaotic nature of his existence. In other words, he wants to change and begins his metamorphosis by rejecting previous life patterns that kept him from finding happiness and contentment. His desire for change and openness to change gives us the impression that healing of his soul is possible. So he starts with dance lessons, dancing in cafes and listening to jazz music. In doing so, Haller prepares to visit the Magic Theater. It is a masquerade where he dances all night and experiences a metaphysical experience. In the Magic Theater, which is actually an internal stage, that is, a mental projection of Haller's subconscious, the "immortals" condemn Haller to eternal laughter, and he realizes that such a metamorphosis will have to go on many more times in his life.
