This thesis focuses on the interest of classroom students for music, as well as the need for teachers to encourage the development of this interest. We also looked at the aesthetic education that children are gaining by experiencing music and on the process of music education for lifelong learning. In the framework of this thesis, a survey was carried out, which was attended by first to fourth grade students from two primary schools in the Koprivnica-Križevci County. It is assumed that the interest for music of classroom students is great, and that their musical tastes are moving in the direction of folk and "turbo folk" music. The aim was to investigate the student's musical interest and the type of music they choose. Likewise, it was examined which activity is most prominent in the music culture class. Finally, we have also highlighted a number of questions in which we see a clear distinction between urban and rural areas. A descriptive method was used in the research, and a survey research as the subject. The research has shown that most students have a positive approach to music and that in certain segments there is a greater difference between urban and rural areas.
