This paper shows the evolution of information and communications technology in a sense of electronic business with a main focus on information and data as a main resource of business organizations. Useful and in the right time information are key to the devolopment and survival of a business entity, which is why there is an increasing interest in transitioning to e-business model, which makes the whole process much faster and efficient. A special system within the electronic business that deals with the processing of such collected data is called Big Data. Because of that, the center of this paper are methods of collecting, processing, analyzing and interpreting data, and the contributions and challenges it brings, all with one goal of a better understanding the needs of business clients. That is why special emphasis is placed on the optimization of the utilization of the Big Data technology system and certain measures that organizations must make in order to take full advantage of the potential and contributions that electronic business system brings.
