The thesis emphasizes the importance and use of the homeland idiom in the school practice, while not neglecting the significance of adopting the language standard. The school is responsible for the pupil's linguistic abilities, but also for the preservation of the homeland idiom, which is an essential component of the national being and cultural heritage. The linguistic awareness of many Croatian language teachers within the lower elementary and subject teaching significantly contributes to this. In the framework of this thesis, a research was conducted in which, on the basis of the five attached texts selected on the principle of diversity, the methodological instruments for the fourth grade elementary school textbook and the written preparations for a Croatian language teaching lesson have been made. With this type of teaching, we shall draw closer to the pupils and teachers the peculiarities of the homeland language and emphasize the cultural aspects of the chosen texts.
