This paper deals with the post-war reconstruction of the Polish city of Warsaw after the bombing in Second World War. About 96.5 percent of the city's historical heritage was destroyed during the German occupation of Warsaw's territory in Second World War. The occupation of the city lasted for five years, and its goal was to completely devastate the city, erase the culture and identity of the Polish in the area, and carry out a cultural cleansing and mass killing of the Jewish population. In 1945, the Soviet army interrupted and stopped further activities of the German army on the territory of Warsaw. From that moment on, the preparation and course of work on the reconstruction of Warsaw can be followed. Furthermore, the goal of this thesis is to investigate the strategies and processes involved in the reconstruction of the city of Warsaw after the Second World War. The investigation involves analysis of the several selected examples of the reconstruction of cultural monuments in this Polish city. Finally, the paper will deal with the success and failure of the post-war reconstruction, as well as with the main reasons why the citizens of Warsaw decided to rebuild their city after the war.
