FDI or foreign direct investment are foreign direct investments that appear during the second part of the 20th century or after the end of World War II. The notion of foreign direct investment is associated with residents of a particular country who invest and take over the management of economic activities in which they have invested in another country. The IMF defines this type of investment as an investment in which a non-resident acquires 10% or more of the equity of a resident of that country. In today's modern and globalized world, foreign direct investment has an important factor that can stimulate the development of economic growth, the economy and all that accompanies the above. Divisions and types of investment funds can be divided into portfolio foreign investments, direct and others. The most common are direct ones, which are implemented by investing in a completely new plant or taking over the domestic one with an already existing company abroad. In the last few years, there has been an increase in foreign direct investment in countries that encourage the development of the IT sector and the development of the R&D sector, which generates huge revenues. Croatia is trying to attract foreign investors, but there is still a dose of mistrust among them. Although still below the level of Western European countries, the Republic of Croatia has attracted a satisfactory amount of foreign direct investment in recent years. One of the problems is that these were mostly brownfield investments that became the property of Croatian companies, while greenfield investments were absent, and it is known that they have a great effect on economic growth.
