Idioms are semantically indivisible expressions, for which is characteristic persistence of whole meaning and grammatical structure. By origin the idiom can be native or borrowed from other languages. Borrowed phrasal expressions can be divided into idioms borrowed from the Old Slavonic language, idioms from ancient literature, the Bible, quotes from literature of different nations and quotes attributed to prominent foreign scientists and writers. Most groups of words consist of phraseological calque and halfcalque, and sometimes expressions of foreign languages are used in the Russian language without translation, in order to emphasize certain stylistic value. Many Russian phrasal expressions are appeard from other languages of the world. Loanwords, borrowed from Western European languages include borrowed words from ancient Latin and Greek. Most idioms borrowed from Western Europea have international origin. Among the analyzed expressions most phraseological expressions entered in Russian language from French and English, and the third place belongs to German loanwords. Phraseological units with Western European origin in the Russian language have structure of sentence or phrase.
