Congress tourism is a specific branch of tourism that differs in the motivation of its subjects, which is one's participation in a variety of assemblies and meetings rather than vacationing and leisure. To describe this variety of assemblies we often use a well-known acronym M.I.C.E. This thesis will deal with congress tourism in Dalmatia. Firstly, it will display the history of congress tourism, and today's trends in the global market considering this type of tourism. Next, it will cover the overall condition of the congress tourism in the world and in the Republic of Croatia. Dalmatia is most commonly associated with summer-vacation tourism, and some other forms of tourism like camping, nautical and cultural tourism and for that reason the data about congress tourism in this area is not well known. The thesis will systematically explore the development of the M.I.C.E. industry in following county: Zadarska, Sibensko-kninska, Splitsko-dalmatinska and Dubrovacko-neretvanska. The focal point are hotel capacities with the emphasis on high end hotels, current offer of the congress tourism provided by the county, the quality of the traffic network, as well as all the previously mentioned forms of tourism in those areas. Finally, those areas will be compared to the two successful destinations for congress tourism in Croatia, Opatija and Zagreb. The analysis will crystallize all the advantages and positive aspects such are congress halls, usage of new, interesting venues, good promotion and other factors that make the two cities a success. By using all the data, we will determine the possibilities of improvement and further growth of the congress tourism in the county in question so that they may gain the status of an ideal congress destination.
