Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. Acute coronary syndrome is a condition of myocardial ischemia that includes acute myocardial infarction and unstable angina pectoris, and occurs as a complication of atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries. The leading symptom of the disease is angina pectoris - cardiogenic chest pain. Given that these are high-risk patients in whom it is necessary to start treatment immediately, early recognition and treatment is extremely important. Emergency services are an indispensable part of providing care to such patients. The nurse as part of the medical team participates in emergency patient care and in inpatient and outpatient emergency services. The nurse as a dispatcher in the out-of-hospital emergency service must recognize the signs and symptoms of acute coronary syndrome, and know how to instruct the layman in providing first aid until the arrival of the emergency service. It is equally important to record a 12-channel ECG, to possess the skills of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and to apply emergency therapy. It is important for a nurse who performs triage of patients in an emergency hospital to recognize the symptoms and signs of an acute coronary event in a timely manner, and to assign an adequate triage category that will enable timely medical examination and intervention. Furthermore, the nurse participates in all activities of emergency care and admission to the hospital. The aim of this paper is to show the role and importance of the nurse as a team member in the management of acute coronary syndrome through emergency services, applying knowledge and skills from its scope of work that need to be continuously upgraded.
