Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
The feminization of Impressionism is considered to be a fascinating phenomenon in the 19th century art production, especially when related to the critical understanding of a woman as an intellectual being, as well as her underrated capabilities. The first part of the paper gives a thorough insight into the features of the Impressionist movement, and its female artists. Furthermore, it tries to clarify the notion of womens role in society at the time, which was mainly the result of the flourishing scientific researches during the entire 19th century. Although many of these works were never scientifically approved, some of them managed to become a vital part of society, and create the critical perspective of art. Moreover, the text analyses the importance of such theories and the awareness of authors gender in constructing public opinion and critique. Apart from relying on already mentioned gender issues, the rest of the paper concentrates on the examination of quality of the works executed by female artists. Towards the end the phenomenon of the feminization of Impressionism is described as an idyllic artistic style suited for women, as it appeals to their temperament and personality.
