Abstract (croatian) Glavni fokus ovog istraživačkog rada je istražiti značaj verbalne komunikacije nastavnika u okviru usmenog provjeravanja i ocjenjivanja znanja.
Abstract (english) The main focus of this research is to explore the significance of teachers' verbal communication within the context of oral assessment and evaluation of knowledge. Since teacher communication during lessons is a crucial aspect, existing research often concentrates on this topic. However, the importance of teacher communication during oral assessment and evaluation has not been sufficiently investigated so far, even though it is pivotal in this process. The research is based on the observation of six hours of oral assessment of the French language in a high school. A total of nine students, from the first, second, and third grades who attend the same subject taught by the same teacher, were observed. The notes taken during the observation were analysed and documented in the research work. The aim of this research is to provide a deeper understanding of the aspects of teacher communication during the process of oral assessment and evaluation. Through concrete examples, future educators and teachers can better comprehend how specific communication methods work in practice and what forms of communication teachers employ in such situations. The primary emphasis was placed on verbal communication, which also includes a non-verbal component, particularly in the form of praise, criticism, and how the teacher provides feedback at the end of oral examinations.
