Abstract
Children’s literature, from the definition, function, to its characteristics, remains a controversial area in the literary world, and thus in the world of literary translation. Most translators, both amateurs and experienced ones, inevitably face various challenges and problems when translating children’s literature. In order to meet the challenge and present the translation as successfully as possible, they have to make various adjustments and intervene in various ways (subtle and concrete). This thesis is a combination of theoretical aspects of children’s literature and challenges in translating the same practice, where the example of the translation of parts of the novel entitled The Science of Breakable Things by American author Tae Keller presents previously discussed challenges.
Abstract (croatian)
Dječja književnost, od defincije, funkcije, do karakteristika i dalje ostaje sporno područje u književnom svijetu, a samim time i u svijetu književnog prevođenja. Većina prevoditelja, što amatera, što onih već iskusnih, neizbježno se susreće s raznim izazovima i problemima prilikom prevođenja dječje književnosti. Kako bi se dovinuli izazovu i što uspješnije iznijeli prijevod, moraju poduzimati razne prilagodbe i intervenirati na razne načine (što suptilne, što konkretne). Ovaj diplomski rad kombinacija je teorijskih aspekata dječje književnosti i izazova pri prevođenju iste te prakse gdje se na primjeru prijevoda dijelova romana pod naslovom Znanost o krhkim stvarima američke autorice Tae Keller prikazuju prethodno obrađeni izazovi.
