Abstract

Parallel abstract (Croatian)
Parallel abstract (English)
The main goal of this thesis is to present the characteristics and problematic of translation of historical texts. The thesis consists in translation of two historical texts and their traductological analysis that is based on translation procedures suggested by two French linguists Jean Paul Vinay and Jean Darbelnet in their work Stylistique compareé du français et de l’ anglais. The translation is also analyzed applying the Interpretive Theory of Translation founded by Danica Seleskovitch and Marianne Lederer. After presenting the main characteristics of Jean-Paul Vinay’s and Jean Darbelnet’s methodology and the Interpretive Theory of Translation, I presented the analysis of the texts. The analysis based on Vinay and Darbelnet procedures contains examples for each of seven translating procedures. Application of the Interpretive Theory of Translation consists in analyzing the problems incurred during the translation process. The problems are divided in three stages. At the end of the thesis, I presented my personal impressions considering the problematic of translation of historical texts and I gave a critical review of my work.
