Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
The aim of this thesis was to offer the translation of a selection of short stories from the collection Las mujeres no tienen que machacar con ajos su corazón en el mortero [Women do not Have to Crush Their Hearts with Onions in the Mortar] by Inma Luna. The theoretical frame regarding the history of translation and its most important factors served as basis in the elaboration of the thesis. The first hypothesis assumed that the original text with a larger number of cultural elements would represent a more significant challenge for the translator. A different background regarding the author, the characters, the place or time of action compared to the target language were considered cultural elements. The second hypothesis assumed that the possibility of contacting the source text’s author would be a beneficial aspect that could help clarify eventual difficulties and contribute to the creation of a quality translation.
Parallel abstract (Croatian)
