Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to put Judith Butler’s ideas of undoing gender in the context of work by providing an analysis of the case of Lisa Kelly, an American ice-road trucker - one of the stars of History Channel documentary/reality shows Ice Road Truckers (2007) and Ice Road Truckers: Deadliest Roads (2010) which follow ice road truck drivers and explore this high-risk profession. The analysis examines the ways in which a woman (un)does her gender by working in a male-dominated profession. Most notably, the analysis attends to the ways and situations in which Lisa does gender by conforming to dominant gender norms, as well as undoes gender by resisting those norms. The analysed example contributes to reducing the link of this profession with men and preventing individuals from being marginalized in a work place on the basis of gender.
Abstract (croatian)
Cilj ovog istraživanja je provući ideje Judith Butler o raščinjavanju roda kroz kontekst radnog mjesta (profesije) analizirajući slučaj Lise Kelly, američke vozačice kamiona na ledu-jedne od zvijezda dokumentarnih/reality emisija Ice Road Truckers (2007) te Ice Road Truckers: The Deadliest Roads (2010) prikazivanih na History Chanelu. Analizom se ispituju načini na koje žena čini i raščinjava svoj rod radeći u profesiji u kojoj dominiraju muškarci. U najvećem dijelu, analiza je usmjerena na načine na koje Lisa čini svoj rod konformirajući se dominantnim rodnim normama, ali i na načine kojima raščinjava svoj rod opirujući se istima. Analizirani primjer pridonosi smanjivaju asocijacije ove profesije s muškarcima te sprječavanju marginalizacije pojedinaca na osnovi roda na radnom mjestu.
