Abstract
Prvo opisuje realne prostore (interijere i eksterijere), točnije kurijalni ambijent, dok kasnije u fantastičnim novelama opisuje prostore snova i gradsku sredinu i to negativnim predodžbama.

Parallel abstract (English)
The paper analyzes the results of the imagological survey carried out on the basis of corpus of short stories written by Ksaver Šandor Gjalski, a writer from the turn of the 19th and 20th century. A novel Illustrissimus Battorych is the starting point of view in which has been described the manor Brezovica, that is also the central figure of this paper, and represents the destruction of an entire generation. The space that Gjalski describes is the Croatian zagorje, and is depicted in two ways. Real spaces are portrayed first (indoors and outdoors), namely curial environment, while spaces of dreams and urban areas are described later in the fantasy novels and to the negative perceptions. A brief overview of imagology, its founders, and the essential terms (image, notion, portrait, stereotype) are demonstrated in the first section of the paper. The following images are searched out in the paper: rural/urban, past/present, old/new. Author brings us the images of Hungary which are mostly negative. It shows the political and social situation that has affected the decline of the old generation (nobility), which replaces the new middle class. Gjalski displays the national nature through symbolization of curia Brezovica by images, but also through fantastical images of mysticism and spiritualism. Noble world enlivens when someone re-reads K. Š. Gjalski’s novels. The paper is based on contrasts, binary structures that imagology calls images.
