Abstract Le sujet du mémoire est la langue bretonne et ses aspects sociolinguistiques. La langue bretonne est classée par l’Unesco parmi les langues qui sont sérieusement en danger d’extinction. Le but du mémoire est d’expliquer pourquoi exactement la langue bretonne se trouve dans ce stade précaire. Pour faire cela, le mémoire est divisé en trois parties et l’approche méthodologiques utilisée est sociolinguistique pour permettre l’analyse, la synthèse et l’évaluation de la situation de la langue bretonne. D’abord, on a introduit les aspects théoriques, où l’on a expliqué les concepts de la mort des langues, de l’identité et de l’identité linguistique et bien de la politique linguistique. Ensuite, on a exposé l’environnement bretonnant en se baisant largement sur les faits historiques et les enquêtes pour construire le contexte breton et finalement, on s’est mis à l’analyse de la situation sociolinguistique où l’on a expliqué quels facteurs et quels processus ont été contributifs à la substitution de la langue bretonne par la langue française. Malgré les tentatives et les efforts conscients d’inverser la situation sociolinguistique en Bretagne, l’avenir pour la langue bretonne n’est pas clair.
Abstract (english) The topic of the graduate paper at hand is Breton language and its sociolinguistic aspects. Breton language was classified by UNESCO as an endangered language. The aim of this paper is to explain why exactly Breton language is in this precarious state. In order to do that, the paper is divided into three parts. The methodological approach that was used is sociolinguistic as it allows analysis, synthesis et evaluation of the situation which affects Breton language. First, the theoretical background was introduced, where certain concepts such as language death, identity and linguistic identity and language policy were explained. Secondly, Breton context was created using mostly historical facts and surveys and finally, a sociolinguistic analysis was done by explaining which factors and what processes contributed to the substitution of Breton language by French language. Despite the conscious efforts to reverse the sociolinguistic situation in Britanny, the future for Breton language is not clear.
Abstract (croatian) Tema diplomskog rada je bretonski jezik i njegovi sociolingvistički aspekti. UNESCO je svrstao bretonski jezik među izumiruće jezike. Cilj ovog rada je objasniti upravo zašto se bretonski jezik nalazi u ovom nepovoljnom položaju. Kako bi se to odradilo, rad smo podijelili u tri dijela. Metodološki pristup je sociolingvistički kako bi se omogućila analiza, sinteza i evaluacija situacije u kojoj se nalazi bretonski jezik. Prvo smo uveli teoretsku podlogu objašnjavajući koncepte kao što su smrt jezika, identitet i lingvistički identitet te jezična politika. Zatim smo utemeljili bretonski kontekst oslanjajući se uglavnom na povijesne činjenice i ankete i konačno smo izvršili sociolingvističku analizu objašnjavajući koji faktori i procesi su doprinijeli zamjeni bretonskog jezika francuskim jezikom. Unatoč svjesnim naporima da se revitalizira sociolingvistička situacija bretonskog jezika u Bretanji, njegova budućnost nije jasna.
