Abstract Azimutni propulzijski sustav počinje se razvijati sredinom 90-tih godina prošlog stoljća, paralelno s razvojem elektro propulzije na brodovima. Prvotna ideja azimutnog propulzijskog sustava se pojavila u Finskoj pomorskoj administraciji, navodeći kao glavni problem porivni pogon ledolomaca. Manevarska svojstva brodova koja koriste azimutnu propulziju su uvelike povećana s obzirom na mogučnost zakretanja brodskog vijka 360° oko svoje vertikalne osi. Azimutni propulzijski sustav svoju primjenu je pronašao na različitim vrstama brodova kao što su LNG brodovi, brodovi za prijevoz sirove nafte, ledolomci, brodovi za kružna putovanja, brodovi tegljači i plovila za opskrbu. Azipod (eng. Azimuthing Podded Drive - gondolski propulzor) je registrirani naziv specifičnog azimut propulzora izvorno razvijenog u Finskoj zajedničkim pothvatom Kvaerner MASA brodogradilišta i ABB grupe. Azipod je brodska pogonska jedinica koja se sastoji od električnog pogonjenog vijka montiranog u kućištu kojeg je moguće zakretati. Azipodni propulzijski sustavi dostupni su u izvedbama od 13MW do 23MW. Neke od prednosti azipodnog propulzijskog sustava u odnosu na one konvencionalne su bolja upravljivost i dinamička svojstva, niska razina buke i vibracija te se osigurava dodatni teretni prostor zbog smještaja azipoda ispod razine mora. Na tržištu postoje dva glavna proizvođača azipoda, a to su ABB i Rolls-Royce, od kojih je kompanija ABB sa največom proizvodnjom i isporukom POD elektromotora. Električni sustav POD propulzije uobičajeno se sastoji od brodske električne centrale, razvodne ploče, transformatora, pretvarača frekvencije i porivnog stroja najčešće sinkronog elektromotora. Mehanički sustav POD propulzije sastoji se od kormilarskog sustava, kliznih prstenova, radijalnog i aksijalnog ležaja, brodskog vijka i vratilnog voda.
Abstract (english) Azimuth propulsion system begins to develop in the mid 90's parallel with the development of electric propulsion on ships. The original idea of azimuth propulsion system occurs in Finland maritime administration, stating the main problem about power propulsion of icebreakers. Maneuverability of ships using azimuth propulsion are greatly increased due to the possibility of turning the propeller 360° around its vertical axis. Azimuth propulsion system is found its application on different types of ships such as as LNG carriers, ships for transport crude oil, icebreakers, ships for cruise voyage, tug boats and supply vessels. Azipod (Azimuthing Podded Drive) is trademark name of a specific azimuth propellers originally developed in Finland joint undertaking of Kvaerner Masa shipyard and ABB group. Azipod is power unit consisting of an electric driven propeller mounted in a housing which can be rotated. Azipod propulsion system are available in versions from 13MW to 23MW. Some of the advantages of azipod propulsion system compared to conventional ones are better maneuverability and dynamic properties, low noise and vibration and provides additional cargo space to accommodate Azipod below the sea level. There are two main manufacturers of Azipod in the market, such as ABB and Rolls-Royce, where the ABB company is the largest production and delivery of POD electric motors. Electric propulsion of Pod system usually consists of power plant, switchboard, transformers, frequency converter and propulsion engine mostly with synchronous electric motors. Mechanical POD propulsion system consists of a steering gear, slip rings, radial and thrust bearing, propeller and shaft lines.
