Coastal area of Zadar County represents its most important development resource. There are a number of economic activities that are developing in this area. Because of its economic importance, development of industry, tourism, food production and population growth, sustainable development of coastal areas is crucial. Integrated Coastal Zone Management has a duty to establish a balance between the need for economic development and the need to protect the environment and prevent conflicts over the use of resources, intensive land use, urbanization of the coastline and ecological degradation. Tourism and aquaculture are strong forces for economic development of Zadar County. Since both activities are developed inside the same geographical area defining their interaction is extremely important. Development of Coastal Zone Management Plan, would define areas for individual users of the coastal and island territory, providing a multi-functional connection between aquaculture and tourism, and at the same time create forms of tourism related directly to aquaculture. Impact trend of tourism on GDP indicates that Croatia's economic development is largely based on the surplus of this economic sector, to whom aquaculture is compatible sector. Aquaculture can provide an invaluable source of gastronomic offers, additional content for sports and recreation, and excursion tourism. Tourism as a fundamental backbone of economic development needs aquaculture, for economic but also for ecological reasons. It is significant that both tourism and aquaculture strive for clear sea water and clean environment, and are equally interested in its protection and preservation. Stronger momentum of tourism must be accompanied by development of the touristic offer, among other things, with distinctive gastronomic, recreational and adrenaline activities, which could potentially connect these two industries, resulting with their mutual benefits and further development.
