Abstract (english) Burnout syndrome can be described as a set of psychological and somatic responses to chronic stress associated with professional work. It occurs when individuals are exposed to stress in work environments with high demands and insufficient resources. Various operationalizations of job burnout exist, with one model dividing it into two dimensions: exhaustion and disengagement from work. Research indicates that individuals in the teaching profession experience high levels of stress and are prone to burnout. Some authors suggest that working during an individual's optimal time of day, based on personal preferences, could help reduce job burnout. Individual preferences for sleep and wake times, activity planning, and periods when individuals feel their best are related to chronotype. Individuals can be oriented more towards morningness, eveningness, or have a neutral chronotype, while the misalignment between biological and social rhythms is known as social jet lag. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between chronotype and subjective sleep quality with job burnout and mental health among teachers in Croatian schools, considering social jet lag and job satisfaction. The final sample consisted of 697 full-time primary and secondary school teachers, including 649 women and 48 men, aged 24 to 66 years. The instruments used were the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the Composite Scale of Morningness, the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory, the Mental Health Inventory- 5 and the Job Satisfaction Scale. The study results showed that teachers with poorer sleep quality experienced higher levels of disengagement and exhaustion and had worse overall mental health. Additionally, chronotype was found to be related to dimensions of job burnout and mental health, with teachers who have a stronger orientation towards eveningness experiencing more burnout and having poorer mental health. Social jet lag was not associated with job burnout, but teachers with higher social jet lag reported poorer mental health. Furthermore, neither social jet lag nor job satisfaction had a significant moderating role in the relationship between chronotype and burnout or mental health. However, in the relationships between subjective sleep quality with burnout and mental health, job satisfaction was a significant moderator. High job satisfaction had a protective role against burnout and poor mental health when sleep quality was good, but negatively impacted burnout and mental health when sleep quality was poor.
