Abstract (english) During adolescence, a nummerous body changes occur which is why many cannot fit the image of „new self“ with their„ old self“. Given the negative attitudes towards appearance, individuals who are not satisfied with their body often have more negative attitudes towards eating, and research also points to greater weight concern which may ultimately lead to eating disorders (Lake et al., 1999). This research sought to examine the relationship of derogatory eating habits with the evaluation and dissatisfaction of one's own body, the acceptance of social standards on physical appearance and the practice of exercise in the younger population in Croatia. The study was conducted in an online format, with 240 respondents participating in the survey, among whom 16% of the sample were men and 84% were women with an average age of 21 years. Statistical analysis, of the data collected, found that participants who are more prone to certain derogatory eating patterns are also more likely to value their own body more negatively, they are more unsatisfied with their own body and are more inclined to accept social standards about physical appearance. It was also found that women, older participants, those involved in exercise, those who are lower on the dimension of valuing their own appearance, more dissatisfied with their body and those who are more accepting of social standards of beauty, have higher levels of derogatory eating habits. Such results are in line with research to date, and point to a major problem in the population which is why changes are needed to stop or reduce such a patern.
