Abstract (english) Numerous studies conducted on the population of students, i.e. young people, indicate a significant increase in psychological problems such as test anxiety, but also perfectionism and lowered self-esteem. Such ailments have significant consequences on the psychological and social functioning of the individual, as well as on academic success. Test anxiety is a term that represents a psychological state of excessive excitement, which occurs in test situations. Exam anxiety is often linked to lowered self-esteem, and maladaptive perfectionism. Self-esteem is often described as individual's belief about his abilities and values, while perfectionism can be explained as the pursuit of perfect performance in all domains of life. This research examined a special type of perfectionism – maladaptive perfectionism, which is characterized by strong perfectionistic aspirations and negative perfectionistic concern. In general, it is commonly believed among researchers that women tend to experience higher levels of test anxiety and maladaptive perfectionism while displaying lower levels of self-esteem compared to men. The aim of this study was to examine the associations between test anxiety, maladaptive perfectionism, and self-esteem among students and to ascertain whether gender disparities exist within these aspects. The study was conducted with a convenient sample of students hailing from the Republic of Croatia, with 152 female participants and 44 male participants participating via online platforms. The research revealed a significant correlation between test anxiety, negative perfectionism, and self-esteem, as well as disparities in these aspects based on gender. On average, female students had lower self-esteem, higher maladaptive perfectionism and higher test anxiety than male students.
