Abstract Ovaj rad obuhvaća teorijsko i empirijsko istraživanje vezano uz ulogu slikovnice u razvoju predčitalačkih vještina djece predškolske dobi. Prvi dio rada temelji se na pregledu literature vezanoj uz pojam slikovnice, njene funkcije i vrste, odnos slike i teksta u slikovnici, definiciju predčitalačkih vještina i važnosti čitanja te za ulogu slikovnice u razvoju predčitalačkih vještina. Drugi dio rada opisuje empirijsko istraživanje vezano uz korištenje slikovnice i važnost čitanja slikovnice u razvoju predčitalačkih vještina. Istraživanje je provedeno na uzorku od 150 odgojitelja koji su u radnom odnosu u ustanovama za rani i predškolski odgoj i obrazovane na području grada Zadra, od kojih je 65 iz državne ustanove, 68 iz privatne ustanove. Primarni cilj istraživanja bio je utvrditi stavove odgojitelja o utjecaju slikovnice na razvoj predčitalačkih vještina kod djece s obzirom na radno iskustvo, stručna usavršavanja u svezi slikovnice, vrstu ustanove u kojoj rade i uključenosti ustanove u kampanje čitanja. Sekundarni cilj istraživanja bio je utvrditi učestalost, svrhu i kriterije korištenja slikovnice u razvoju predčitalačkih vještina kod djece. Rezultati istraživanja su pokazali da ne postoje razlike u učestalosti korištenja slikovnica između skupina koje jesu i skupina koje nisu prošle stručno usavršavanje, kao ni između skupina koje imaju više ili manje od 10 godina radnog iskustva. Pokazalo se da postoji razlika u učestalosti korištenja slikovnica s obzirom na vrstu ustanove u kojoj odgojitelji/ce rade, kao i na uključenost ili neuključenost ustanove u kampanje čitanja, odnosno odgojitelji koji dolaze rade u državnim ustanovama za rani i predškolski odgoj i obrazovanje i uključeni su u kampanje čitanja češće koriste slikovnice u radu s djecom predškolske dobi. Nadalje, pokazalo se da ne postoji razlika u učestalosti izrade slikovnica s obzirom na radno iskustvo odgojitelja/ca i stručna usavršavanja u svezi slikovnice, ali pokazalo se da postoji razlika u učestalosti izrade slikovnica s obzirom na uključenost ustanove u kampanje čitanja, odnosno, odgojitelji/ce koji su uključeni u kampanje čitanja češće izrađuju slikovnice u svojoj odgojnoj skupini, odnosno s djecom predškolske dobi.
Abstract (english) This paper includes theoretical and empirical research related to the role of the picture book in the development of pre-reading skills of preschool children. The first part of the paper is based on a review of the literature related to the concept of picture books, its functions and types, the relationship between image and text in the picture book, the definition of pre-reading skills and the importance of reading and the role of picture books in developing pre-reading skills. The second part of the paper describes empirical research related to the use of picture books and the importance of reading picture books in the development of pre-reading skills. The research was conducted on a sample of 150 preschool educators who are employed in institutions for early and preschool education and educated in the city of Zadar, of which 65 are from a state institution, 68 from a private institution. The primary goal of the research was to determine the attitudes of educators about the impact of picture books on the development of pre-reading skills in children with regard to work experience, professional development related to picture books, the type of institution they work in and the institution's involvement in reading campaigns. The secondary goal of the research was to determine the frequency, purpose and criteria of using the picture book in the development of pre-reading skills in children. The results of the research showed that there are no differences in the frequency of using picture books between groups that are and groups that have not undergone professional training, as well as between groups that have more or less 10 years of work experience. It turned out that there is a difference in the frequency of using picture books with regard to the type of institution where educators work, as well as the involvement or non-involvement of the institution in reading campaigns, ie educators who come work in state institutions for early and preschool education. in reading campaigns they more often use picture books in working with preschool children. Furthermore, it turned out that there is no difference in the frequency of making picture books with regard to the work experience of educators and professional training related to picture books, but it turned out that there is a difference in the frequency of making picture books with regard to the institution's involvement in reading campaigns. Those who are involved in reading campaigns more often make picture books in their educational group, respectively with preschool children.
