Abstract (english) The impostor phenomenon refers to a pattern of behavior in which competent people doubt their abilities and constantly fear being exposed as impostors. The goal of this study was to examine the relationship between impostor phenomenon and self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and stress in a sample of students and professionals, and to get insight into different aspects of the impostor phenomenon from the perspective of participants, precisely the period in life and the situations of occurrence, negative aspects and coping. The first problem was to check the differences between students and professionals in the intensity of impostor features, secondly to check the differences in depression, anxiety, stress and self-esteem with regard to lower and higher impostor features intensity, and finally to obtain insight through a qualitative approach into the period in life and the situations of occurrence, negative aspects and coping. The mixed-design research was conducted using the online method. Students and professionals in social sciences (N=324, age M=30.39) completed The Clance Impostor Phenomenon Scale (Čarapina Zovko et al., 2021), the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (Reić Ercegovac and Penezić, 2012), the Self-Liking and Self-Competence scale (Tafarodi and Swann, 1995) and descriptive questions. Students show a higher intensity of impostor features compared to employees. Participants who show a higher intensity of the imposter phenomenon features have higher levels of depression, anxiety, stress and lower self-esteem compared to participants who show lower intensity. Three main themes of the qualitative analysis are periods in life and the situations of occurrence, negative aspects, and coping.
