Das Thema der vorliegenden Diplomarbeit ist die Analyse und Erklärung der Monstrosität im Werk Gregorius von Hartmann von Aue. Der Untersuchungsgegenstand liegt beim Begriff Monstrosität, wobei man betonen muss, dass es hier um die innere, moralische Monstrosität geht. Nachdem im theoretischen Teil Thesen erwähnt werden, die wichtig für die Entwicklung des Themas sind, folgt eine umfassende Analyse im Hauptteil dieser Diplomarbeit. Mithilfe der Szenen, die aus dem Werk ausgewählt wurden, wird eine philologische Analyse der Monstrosität am Individuum und an der Gesellschaft durchgeführt. Danach folgt eine Indikation darüber, dass die Monstrosität die höfische Gesellschaft übersteigt und einen Platz in jeder gesellschaftlichen Schicht findet. In diesem Teil werden Ideen, Gedanken, Absichten und Taten bestimmter Figuren oder Gruppen untersucht und diese in Verbindung mit Monstrosität gebracht. Nach der Hauptanalyse folgt ein Vergleich mit einem Werk, das die Handlung des Gregorius fast völlig übernimmt, aber in Bezug auf die Monstrosität, einen Schritt weiter geht. Anschließend folgt die Schlussfolgerung, in der vereint die wichtigsten Thesen erwähnt werden, die sich aus der Analyse ergeben haben.

The subject of the following master’s thesis is to analyse and explain the functions of the phenomenon of monstrosity in Hartmann von Aue’s Gregorius. The subject of investigation lies in the term monstrosity, whereby it must be emphasised that this is about inner, moral monstrosity. After the theoretical part states theses which are important for the development of the topic, a comprehensive analysis follows in the main part of this diploma thesis. With the help of the selected scenes from the work, a philological analysis of monstrosity of the individual and society is carried out. This is followed by a indication that monstrosity exceeds courtly society and finds a place in every social class. In this part, ideas, thoughts, intentions and actions of certain characters or groups are examined and associated with monstrosity. The main analysis is followed by a comparison with a work that almost completely takes over Gregorius but goes one step further in terms of monstrosity. A conclusion is followed after it, in which the most important statements that emerged from the analysis are collectively stated.
