stanovnika. Njezin glavni grad Berlin je kulturno, političko, društveno i gospodarsko središte
Njemačke, a ujedno i njezin najveći grad sa oko 3.400.000 stanovnika. Nakon što je Drugi
svjetski rat završio u svibnju 1945. godine potpunim porazom i bezuvjetnom kapitulacijom
Njemačke, četiri su saveznika zaposjela Njemačku i podijelili Njemački Reich u četiri
okupacijske zone.
Abstract (english) The Federal Republic of Germany is a country in central part od Europe with
approximately 82.5 million inhabitants. Berlin, Germany´s capital as well as its biggest city
with cca. 3.4 million Inhabitants, is its cultural, political and socio economic canter. After the
Second World War ended with complete defeat and unconditional capitulation of German
forces in May 1945, four allies occupied Germany and divided German Reich into four
occupational zones. Considering that a large number of refugees tried to flee to the Federal
Republic of Germany, German Democratic Republic attempted to stop the wave of refugees
in an extremely violent manner. At 2 hours and 30 minutes, East German government sealed
the border between East and West Berlin and it began to built a wall that divided both the city
and the two states. Escaping East Germany was impossible. The wall was finally torn down
on the ninth of November 1989, while almost one year later, on October the third, Germany
was united. Subject of this paper is the Berlin Wall, as it was then and as it is now. In the past,
the Berlin War was the mail symbol of Cold War and world´s division, while today, twentyfive
years after the Fall, it became top tourist attraction and one of Berlin´s landmarks which
attracts millions of visitors from all around the world. Furthermore, its valorization is
increasing with every year.
