According to Petz (2005), anxiety is an unpleasant and complex feeling of anxiety, fear, tension and insecurity accompanied by the activation of the autonomic nervous system. Perfectionism can be defined most simply as a striving for infallibility (Flett and Hewitt, 2002). Rumination refers to a pattern of response to psychological discomfort in which an individual passively and persistently thinks about the symptoms, causes, and consequences of the discomfort experienced, while failing to activate a problem-solving mechanism that would potentially reduce the discomfort (Nolen-Hoeksema and Morrow, 1991). The aim of this research was to examine the relationships between anxiety, perfectionism and rumination among student sample. The data was collected using the paper-pencil method, and the sample consisted of students of the University of Zadar (N = 171) with an average age of 21. The Anxiety Scale from the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS; Lovibond i Lovibond, 1995), the Positive and Negative Perfectionism Scale (PNPS; Terry-Short i sur., 1995) and the Ruminative Thinking Style Scale (RTS; Brinker i Dozois, 2009) were used as measuring instruments. In accordance with expectations, negative perfectionists are more anxious, while no connection was found between anxiety and positive perfectionism. Furthermore, it was shown that both negative and positive perfectionists are prone to rumination, and that those who ruminate more are also more anxious.
