The main goal of this thesis was the analysis of idioms, which occur in journalistic and publicist writing style from the two standpoints: structural and semantic. Structural idioms' analysis assumes an extent analysis, lexical structureand syntactically main components of idioms. While defining the extent of idioms, the classification on the phonetic words idioms, set of words idioms and the phrases idioms has been present since its beginnings in Croatian phraseology. The thesis is written according to already mentioned classification. Unlike the structural, the semantic analysis is occupied with the phrasal meaning – its form and expression, apropos determining of degree of desemantisation idiom origins and motivation. Whereas this thesis is the research work, sociological method of content analysis has also been used. Two hundred idioms which are sorted in the tables and the graphs considering the structural and the semantic features have been included by this method. At the end of the thesis there is a dictionary of alphabetically sorted idioms, which are covered by the research. Each of the idioms is accompanied by its meaning taken from Croatian Phraseology Dictionary (Hrvatski frazeološki rječnik).
