From the evolutionary psychology perspective men are more jealous of sexual infidelity and women of emotional infidelity. For men, it is assumed that they will give greater importance to indicators of sexual infidelity. Women, on the other hand, are assumed to give greater importance to indicators of long-term diverting of emotional investment, like emotional attachment to the other person. Closely related to jealousy is construct of infidelity which is defined as creation of emotional or sexual intimate relationship between two persons by which the commitment of fidelity that was previously established is disturbed. The aim of this research was to determine gender differences in jealousy in relation to infidelity experience. The research was conducted online. Total of 1117 participants took part in this study (249 men and 868 women), which were asked to ponder degree of jealousy in situations of sexual and emotional infidelity. Jealousy of sexual and emotional infidelity was measured using 7 point scale. Furthermore, infidelity experience was assessed by asking participants whether they have ever experienced or committed infidelity. Results indicate that women show higher degree of jealousy to both emotional and sexual infidelity, with gender differences being larger in case of emotional infidelity. Furthermore, participants who experienced any form of infidelity show higher intensity of jealousy compared to those who cheated but were not cheated.
