Abstract (croatian) Tema ovog djela je predstavljanje čovječanstva Mephistophelesa u Goetheovom Faustu kroz njegove interakcije s drugim ljudima, posebno Faustom.
Abstract (english) The topic of this work is the portrayal of Mephistopheles’ humanity Goethes Faust through his interactions with other people, most importantly Faust. It shows his own journey through the storyy and how he deals with emotions related to the concept of humanity such as companionship, compassion and love. Mephistopheles is shown as a layered figure. He is a cynical character who expects the worst from people and sees himself as above them, but also a businessman who keeps his end of the pact. He's looking for a purpose in his life, but he's causing trouble for other characters. Instead of changing his views, he remains loyal to them until the bitter end and loses Faust's soul. Although Mephistopheles is a force of evil, he is also an unconscious force of good and an unwilling servant of heaven. He tries to destroy Faust, but his own actions and inability to understand concepts such as human compassion and love drive Faust to try to become a better person. Mephistopheles is a complex and multilayered character with his own flaws who makes the reader sympathize with him, but is so far removed that the reader can judge him by his origins and his actions as a demon.
