Abstract
This thesis is focused on the analysis of vocabulary in the novel The Emperor’s Babe, by Bernardine Evaristo. Biographical facts about the author and the content of her novel-inverse are elaborated in the initial chapters. After that follows a chapter on Roman rule in Britain. The analysis of vocabulary is shown through following approaches: etymological and morphosyntactic within one chapter, and sociolinguistic within a separate chapter. In the etymological and morphosyntactic part the goal... More is to list borrowings from other languages and to show some of the most important word-formation processes, supported with examples from the text. In the sociolinguistic part the focus is on individual use of different dialects, slang and other non-standard forms of English. Ovaj diplomski rad je posvećen analizi vokabulara u romanu The Emperor’s Babe, autorice Bernardine Evaristo. Biografski podaci o autorici i sadržaju njenog romana u stihovima su prikazani u početnim poglavljima. Nakon toga slijedi poglavlje o rimskoj vladavini u Britaniji. Analiza vokabulara je prikazana kroz sljedeće pristupe: etimološki i morfosintaktički u okviru jednog poglavlja, te sociolingvistički unutar zasebnog poglavlja. U etimološkom i morfosintaktičkom dijelu cilj je navesti... More posuđenice iz drugih jezika i prikazati neke od najvažnijih procesa u tvorbi riječi, uz pomoć primjera iz teksta. U sociolingvističkom dijelu fokus je na individualnom korištenju različitih dijalekata, žargona i drugih nestandardnih oblika engleskog jezika.
