Abstract
Huxley’s Brave New World and Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale both feature dystopian societies in which oppressive governments impose rules, and control and regulate every aspect of citizens’ lives in two distinct manners. The aim of this thesis is to analyze how the two distinct types of fictional totalitarian regimes create different situations regarding sexuality and gender through the control of reproduction. This thesis analyses the importance of regulating one’s sexuality and gender as a means of achieving complete control within the totalitarian regimes.
Abstract (croatian)
Vrli novi svijet A.Huxleya te Sluškinjina priča M.Atwood prikazuju distopijska društva u kojima vladajući na različite načine nameću pravila, kontrolirajući svaki aspekt života građana. Cilj ovog rada je analiza dva različita tipa fiktivnih totalitarnih režima te njihov utjecaj na seksualnost i rodna pitanja unutar države. Uspoređuju se distopijska društva koja kroz kontrolu reprodukcije stvaraju dvije različite situacije vezane uz seksualnost i rod. Ovaj rad analizira važnost kontrole ljudske seksualnosti i rodnih pitanja kao sredstva za postizanje potpune kontrole nad stanovništvom u totalitarnim režimima.
