Abstract
This final paper was written with a purpose to describe the literary work of two biggest representatives of dystopian fiction, Aldous Huxley and Yegveny Ivanovich Zamyatin. The focus was put on their most famous novels Brave New World and We and how through those novels both writers criticized the abuse of science in totalitarian regimes. The paper has been divided into several sections. Firstly, to explain why these novels are examples of dystopian fiction, the distinction between utopian literature, dystopian literature and science fiction was explained. Secondly, in order to explain what totalitarian regime is and how it functions, historical context is given. Finally, the paper analyses the critique of the abuse of science in totalitarian regimes for the purpose of control in both novels.
Abstract (croatian)
Cilj ovog završnog rada bio je prikazati književna djela dva najveća predstavnika distopije, Aldousa Huxleyja i Evgenija Ivanoviča Zamjatina. Fokus je stavljen na njihova najpoznatija djela, Vrli novi svijet i Mi. Tema ovoga rada bila je kritika pisaca o zlouporabi znanosti u totalitarnim društvima te je rad podijeljen u nekoliko poglavlja. Naglasak je prvo stavljen na razliku između utopije, distopije i znanstvene fatastike s ciljem kako bi se točno definiralo zašto su romani distopijski. Nadalje, u radu su navedene povijesne činjenice kako bi se objasnilo što je totalitarni režim i kako funkcionira. Naposljetku, u radu se stavlja naglasak na analizu kritike o zlouporabi znanosti u totalitarnim režimima s ciljem kontrole ljudskog života.
