Abstract
The aim of this thesis is the analysis of representations of things that make Great Britain multicultural. Given that in recent years multiculturalism is being seen as a threat to national survival, and that integration of migrants is seen as the right answer to the complex question of cultural difference, it is not surprising, as Sara Ahmed argues, that the focus of many representations is on loyalty to “what has already been established as a national ideal” (142). More Ahmed, this thesis focuses on her analysis of the film Bend it like Beckham (2002, dir Gurinder Chadha), in which the notion of multiculturalism is regarded as ‘happy’ (138) because it denotes the ideal British society in which different ethnic communities have equal opportunities and living standards. Ahmed shows that liberal notion of multiculturalism is controversial and debatable and that Bend it like Beckham reflects the political struggle over national belonging. Less

Cilj ovog rada je analiza prikaza onoga što Veliku Britaniju čini multikulturalnom. Uzimajući u obzir činjenicu da se u posljednjim godinama multikulturalizam smatra prijetnjom opstanku jednoga naroda te da se integracija migranata smatra ispravnim rješenjem za kompleksno pitanje kulturalnih razlika, nije iznenađujuće da Sara Ahmed tvrdi kako je fokus mnogih prikaza na lojalnosti „onomu što je već uspostavljeno kao nacionalni ideal“.(142) Vođen argumentima Sare Ahmed, ovaj rad se fokusira... More na njenu analizu filma Bend it like Beckham (2002, dir Gurinder Chadha) u kojemu je pojam multikulturalizma predstavljen kao 'sretan' (138) jer označava idealno britansko društvo u kojemu različite etničke zajednice imaju podjednake mogućnosti te adekvatan životni standard.
