Fragments are usually a part of library, archive and museum collections. They are a subjects of interdisciplinary research. Digital technologies have created additional opportunities for fragment exploration, especially within a digital humanities. The digitization of fragments and the consequent creation of digital collections of fragments have made this type of items accessible to a wide range of users. New circumstances have raised new questions related to the bibliographic organization of informations on fragments that are crucial to accessing, retrieving and effective use. The issue of fragments cataloging is therefore an important issue that has significant repercussions for a functional use of fragments. The subject of this paper is the question of the catalog description of fragments in the context of the new national cataloging regulations. This thesis deals with the possibility of catalog description of fragments according to the provisions of the Regulations concerning description and access to material in libraries, archives and museums. The starting point for the research in this thesis is the analysis of the catalog description of fragments in the digital collection Fragmentarium. The aim of this research is to provide metadata shema for catalogue discription of fragments and to analyse applicability of the Regulations concerning description and access to material in libraries, archives and museums for the cataloge description of fragments.
