Abstract (croatian) Tema ovog diplomskog rada je mjerenje unutarnje praznine treće generacije i u svrhu analize korpusa korištena su dva generacijska romana. Odabrani romani su „Der letzte große Trost“ (2016) („Posljednja velika utjeha“) autora Stefana Slupetzkyja i „Flugschnee“ (2017) („Snježna mećava“) autorice Birgit Müller-Wieland. Radnja oba romana seže u doba nacionalsocijalizma, a svjedoci tog vremena pripadaju prvoj generaciji.
Abstract (english) The topic of this thesis is the inner void of the third generation and it therefor uses two generation novels for the corpus analyses. The two chosen novels are “Der letzte große Trost” (2016) (“The last great comfort”) by Stefan Slupetzky and “Flugschnee” (2017) (“Snow blizzard”) by Brigit Müller-Wieland. The plot of both novels goes back to the period of National Socialism whose witnesses belong to the first generation. The witnesses of that time belong to the looters, war victims or passive observers. Depending on which side they represent, they are trying to either keep quiet about the experiences of war or express them. However, the psychological burden of war and its consequences is far too great for the looters and passive observers to speak of. Years of silence and suppression of war events result in piling up such secrets that prevent the identity development of the third generation. Both novels show the way war consequences leave a mark even on a third post-war generation. The first generation uses silence and repression to protect its descendants from the trauma that is war, but that only results in losing the third generation’s identity. As a result of the identity loss, the post-war generations feel an inner void. That inner void is a result of an escape, which is the case in both novels. They run away from their own families in order to start their life over somewhere else with a new identity. In the novel “Der letzte große Trost” the protagonist is trying to get over his father’s fake death, while in the novel “Flugschnee” the protagonist starts to investigate her family’s past and uncover family secrets in order to find her missing brother.
