Abstract Ljudi ulaze u romantične veze s različitim ciljevima, održavaju ih na različite načine, a različitim strategijama ih i prekidaju.
Abstract (english) People enter into romantic relationships for a variety of reasons, maintain them in different ways, and breakup using different strategies. Some of the reasons for breaking up romantic relationships are the differences in expectations and bad communication, boredom, but also separation. Studies have shown that the strategy someone will use to get out of a romantic relationship depends on factors such as gender and the quality of attachment, which are emphasized in this research. The aim of this study was to determine whether there are gender differences in the frequency of using specific breakup strategies. Furthermore, the aim was to investigate the relationship between the use of certain strategy and dimensions of attachment, whereby it was expected anxious individuals to use more often strategies such as de-escalation and positive tone to stay in friendly relationships. On the other hand, for individuals more prone to avoiding was expected to use indirect strategies more often. The study included a sample of 165 (71.74%) women and 65 (28.26%) men, aged 18 to 30 (M = 21.60, SD = 2.67), who had experienced break up in the last 18 months. No differences were found between men and women in the frequency of using specific breakup strategies. Among other results, it has been found that there is a positive correlation between the attachment anxiety and strategies of distant communication and escalation which means that those with greater results on the attachment anxiety more often use distant communication and escalation. Specifically, attachment avoidance was positively associated with avoidance and distant communication. Also, there was significant negative correlation between the attachment avoidance and open confrontation. It means that those who score higher results on the attachment avoidance use more avoidance and distant communication and less open confrontation.
