Ethics (Gr. Ethos) custom, habit, is a philosophical discipline that explores the origin, motives, norm and purpose of moral action and judgment. It is extremly important part of comprehensive medical and nursing practice. In the history of psychiatry and ethical issues of psychiatric activity, there have been numerous misunderstandings and discrimination, starting with the Second World War to the Hawaiian Declaration. The boundaries of psychiatry today are not clearly defined so individuals take the right to act beyond the boundaries which ultimately results in numerous ethical problems. Ethical issues arise on everyday basis of psychiatric activity, mostly in forcible hospitalization. Psychiatry is a very attractive area of research for the pharmacological industry due to the great prevalence of mental disorders, where the question is how much these researches are ethically supported. The use of placebo in patients' research, especially when it comes to mental illness, attracts the attention of the media and scientists. During the research,as many as 50 percent have been affected for weeks or months without medicine which can be very risky and thereforethere are for and against reasons. Ethical issues also arise in the area of judicial psychiatry. The differences between clinical psychiatric and judicial psychiatry are the source of many ethical issues that also involve the issue of confidentiality if the psychiatrist at the same time has to be a court expert or witness. The role of a nurse in ensuring proper treatment with a mental patient is of great importance since the nurse is spending the most time with patient and therefore must be his advocate and protector of rights. Aim: The aim of this final work is to demonstrate the importance of applying ethical aspects in the overall psychiatric practice and the role of the nurse practice in the application of all ethical standards of psychiatric practice.
