Abstract (english) Friedrich von Schiller is one of the greatest writers in the history of literature and in this paper one can get to know him also as a big thinker that has skillfully managed to incorporate his reflections into his literary work. Reading his plays "Maria Stuart" and "Die Räuber" the idea of comparing these two was born. Schiller's understanding of ethics, the idea of freedom, religious elements and his critique of society are elaborated in separate chapters in this paper and are being interpreted as levels in which both dramas meet, although they originate from different literary epochs and their content seems to be completely different at first glance. In this paper is shown how Schiller's apparently completely different tragedies can be elevated to a higher sphere of interpretation, where their differences actually become their similarities. In this paper is also shown how certain Schiller's philosophical ideas became the cornerstone of his literature, how he brought in a note of autobiography in his works and how he expressed his criticism towards all spheres of society and social order in general.
