Abstract
The main goal of this paper is to provide an insight into the variety of language present on the Internet and the ways it is used in various Internet-using situations, with special focus on the language variety found in gaming. The paper begins with an introduction to the effects the Internet has on people's everyday lives. The next chapter focuses on some of the universal features of the Internet language and certain phenomena that shape the communication within the medium. The focus then shifts to the specific Internet-using situations, as these and the differences in the usage of language within them are described in depth in the following subchapters. The penultimate chapter focuses on the variety of language found in virtual worlds and gaming, while the final and the most important chapter contains the analysis of common lexemes found in the vocabulary of gaming.
Abstract (croatian)
Cilj ovoga rada je pružiti uvid u varijetet jezika koji je prisutan na Internetu i načine na koji se koristi u raznim kontekstima komunikacije, s posebnim osvrtom na varijetet jezika prisutan u svijetu video igara. Rad započinje uvodom o utjecaju koji Internet ima na svakodnevne živote ljudi. U sljedećem poglavlju obrađuju se univerzalne karakteristike jezika na Internetu i određeni fenomeni koji oblikuju komunikaciju unutar tog medija. Zatim se pažnja usmjerava na specifične kontekste takve komunikacije na Internetu koji se unutar idućih potpoglavlja opisuju, zajedno s razlikama u upotrebi jezika unutar svakog konteksta. Predzadnje poglavlje posvećeno je varijetetu jezika koji se koristi u komunikaciji unutar konteksta virtualnih svjetova i video igara, dok zadnje, ujedno i najvažnije poglavlje sadrži analizu leksema prisutnih u vokabularu jezika video igara.
