Abstract Danas su mediji veoma bitna karika društva te u užurbanom načinu života igraju veliku ulogu u ljudskim životima jer olakšavaju funkcioniranje i zadovoljavaju potrebu za informacijama. Tijekom godina mediji su se rapidno mijenjali i prilagođavali te išli u korak s novim tehnologijama kako bi bili u skladu sa zahtjevima tržišta te na taj način što lakše zadovoljili potrebe javnosti i svojih krajnjih korisnika. Mediji su jedan od glavnih izvora informacija studenata jer se radi o mlađoj populaciji stanovništva koja je u korak s novim trendovima te prati i razumije se u tehnologiju. U radu se istražuju čitateljske navike i preferencije studenata prema vrsti medija. Istraživanje je provedeno na uzorku od 273 studenata sa Sveučilišta u Zagrebu, Splitu, Osijeku, Rijeci, Zadru i Dubrovniku, a realizirano je uz pomoć ankete koja je postavljena u sveučilišnim studentskim grupama na društvenoj mreži Facebook. Rezultati istraživanja pokazali su da ispitanici najviše konzumiraju portale, ali da su skeptični prema informacijama koje dobivaju putem svih medija obuhvaćenim u istraživanju, točnije televizije, portala, radija i novina. Kada su u pitanje preferencije studenata prema vrstama medija, rezultati istraživanja pokazali su da kod tiskovina točnije novina preferiraju Slobodnu Dalmaciju, a kod elektroničkih medija, portal 24sata.hr, radio stanicu Otvorenog radija te program Nove TV kada su u pitanju središnje informativne emisije.Rezultati istraživanja su pokazali da ispitanici preferiraju televiziju kada žele saznati informacije o politici i gospodarstvu, a portale kada žele dobiti informacije o sportu, kulturi i showbizzu, što je i potvrdilo autoričina predviđanja prije provođenja istraživanja. Istraživanje je pokazalo kako studenti prate sve vrste medija, ali isto tako znaju koji točno medij će prvi konzumirati kako bi saznali informacije iz određenih područja.
Abstract (english) In today’s fast paced society the media play a very important role because of their easy operation and because they meet the need for information. The media are one of the main sources of information to students because they are a young population that keeps track with new trends and has great knowledge in technology. Over the years the media has rapidly changed and adapted and kept pace with new technologies in order to comply with the requirements of the market and thus more easily meet the needs of the public and their end users. The media are a major source of information for students because it is a younger population that is in step with new trends and follows the course in technology. This paper is researching reading habits and preferences of students according to the type of media. The survey has been conducted on a sample of 273 students from the Universities of Zagreb, Split, Osijek, Rijeka, Zadar and Dubrovnik. It has been realized troughout a survey that has been set up in the student groups on the social network Facebook. The results of the research show that most respondents use portals, but are very sceptical of the information they receive via all media included in the survey, namely television, radio, newspaper and portal. When it comes to preferences of students by type of media, the survey results show that in publications namely newspapers they prefer Slobodna Dalmacija, and in electronic media portal 24sata.hr. When it comes to the central news,they prefer the radio station Otvoreni radio and TV program Nova TV. The research results also show that students prefer television when they want to find information about politics and economy, and the portals when they want to get information on sports, culture and showbiz, which has confirmed author's predictions before conducting research. The research has shown that students follow all types of media, but they also know which specific media will they read first in order to find out information from specific areas
