TITLE: The incidence of Crohn's disease in the Zadar area in 2015 and 2016 OBJECTIVES: To determine the occurrence of Crohn's disease in patients who have been clinically examined or/and hospitalized at the Department of internal diseases in General hospital Zadar, Gastroenterology clinic. Also goal is to show the role of the nurse in the treatment of patients suffering from Crohn's, the use of biological therapy as well as in education and health promotion. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective sectional study. PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS: Study includes patients who were diagnosed with Crohn's disease in the Departmet of internal diseases in General hospital Zadar for the period from 1.1.2015 to 31.12.2016. It includes 18 participants, 11 males and 7 women. RESULTS: The resultes of study indicate 18 newly discovered cases of Crohn's disease in the Zadar County for past 2 years. Disease is more common in male subjects (61,16 %), and the incidence is most common at age 17 - 40 (50,04 %). In the examined sample the presence of smoking as a risk faktor is small, with only 2 patients (11,12 %). Considering localization, the disease is most commonly reported in terminal ileum (66,72 %). CONCLUSION: The resultes obtained with the resarch on the examined sample indicate an average of 9 patients with Cronh's disease per year, and the most common occurrence is at age 17 - 40. The presence of smoking as a risk factor on the tested sample proved to be very small. For nurses, members of the multidisciplinary team is essential to have specific knowledge and skills about the illness itself, awareness of the importance of timely therapeutic intervention, and the key diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Equally important is the psyhological support both to the patients and his family precisely because of the unpredictability of the disease itselg and it's impact on all aspects of life and its quality.
