This thiesis shows the utilitarian function of the poetry of the Croatian national revival, more precisely it is shown on three selected examples: Ljudevit Gaj: „Horvatov sloga i zjedinjenje“, Petar Preradović: „Zora puca, bit će dana“ and Dragojla Jarnević: „Želja za domovinom“. This work contains social function of literature and it shows the state of society, so it was necessary to present Croatian socio-historical and national-political circumstances in the first half of the 19th century. In addition, it was necessary to present the general features of the poetry of Croatian national revival, and it was particularly important to explain the concepts of ideologems and mythologems in selected examples. The terms of reveille and davorija are also explained because they are often misused in the literary sense. Selected poems have been interpreted and common features have been shown with a focus on the ideological structure. The emphasis is on explaining why this poetry was very utilitarian and did not have a special aesthetic value, and because of which the authors used certain ideologies and mythologies, the focus was on the reader they needed to gain the necessary measures for Croatian autonomy.
